One of the wonderful things about Nuremberg is the annual Christmas market, called the Christkindlesmarkt (literally: Christ Child Market). This is mostly a photographs post… The review portions of it are as follows: it was very, very crowded, very lit up, and like nothing else on the planet.

The Pegnitz River runs through the Altstadt (Old Town). I believe this is the view from Museumsbrücke towards Fleischbrücke just north of Lorenzkirche and south of the main market square.

It was difficult to get photos from inside the market because the throngs of people were so dense and swarming over the market stalls, but I can confirm that much Glühwein and Lebkuchen were consumed, traditions we will be taking back with us.

This is a view down Hauptmarkt into the Christkindlesmarkt. Even a block outside the edge of the market was incredibly busy, and we went LATE.
11/10, glad we went. Probably would do again, despite the crowds. Upon reflection, I was really grumpy at the time, but part of what makes the market at night so electrifying is the fact that it is so busy. I have some crowd aversions, but there is probably some slick evo-psych answer for why throngs of people bunched around lights at night (with or without mugs of Glühwein) is so magnetic… even to the misanthropes among us.
